The Forgotten Promise
I saw something in those woods when I was little.
The crowd of my friends stands around me, eyeing me with a suspicious look. They don’t immediately laugh, looking to each other for reassurance first before my best friend, Olivia, steps up. She shakes her head, and as she does so, the laughter begins. I’m sure it’s not as much as they wanted to out of respect for me, but it still stung to know they didn’t believe me.
“I’m not lying,” I say. “I won’t go into those woods. I saw something. It’s in there. It’s dangerous. No one goes into those woods for a reason.”

A Hundred Ways to Love Her
There were many things Adrien felt when he looked at Ladybug. Admiration, companionship, a bonded friendship, trust, and longing. Even his heart soared with an emotion he could only describe as love.
He was surprised, though, because when he looked at her his worries seemed to disappear. His heart was calm. It was so much different from the romance stories and movies he had watched where he’d seen love drastically change people. But he didn’t doubt for a second it wasn’t love, because he could’t smile so freely and easily at her even when he knew she’d never look his way if he wasn’t.

Grimoire {33} Light in the Room
The room isn't that hard to find Shay soon finds out. There's a bit of light that leaks into the tunnel from the opening. It's just barely there, but it's easy enough to spot in the darkness.
Shay moves closer along the opposite wall. The room starts to focus.
It looks more like a cave to Shay than an actual room. The space is carved into a partially wide area, the ceiling much higher than the small, cramped space Shay and friends were traveling through at the very least.
There's a light in the very far distance. It seems like a candle by the way it moves like a rippling ocean wave. The light doesn't provide much vision, but Shay squints.

Grimoire {32} Scout
Shay doesn't know who or where the noise is coming from, but he whips his arm over Ronnie's shoulder and pulls him down to the ground. Their pants are soaked in the foul smelling water, but that's the last thing on their minds.
The flight or fight instinct inside of them is telling them to get away. Now.
Both Shay and Ronnie move down on all fours, crawling on their hands and knees towards Taylor. All the screaming is making Ronnie shake, and he loses his grip a few times. He splashes loudly in the water like a flailing fish.
Each time Shay is next to Ronnie in seconds, pulling him by the arm to help him up. It's just big enough for both of t

Grimoire {31} Shattered Silence
The path is long and quiet. Only their sounds of walking in the water and breathing can be heard. They hardly speak with one another. When they do, it's usually Ronnie giving out directions—a pit here, a slippery part there.
Occasionally Taylor and Shay stop to take a break. Calm her breathing. In and out in slow motions while Shay rubs circles on her back.
The whole place feels claustrophobic. More so than in the rooms. Taylor's holding together loose ends that aren't coming together. Eventually they're going to break.
Before that happens Shay knows that he needs to get her out. The only way out—if there even is one—is dead

Grimoire {30} Slow and Steady
Shay knows that Ronnie's phone dying is only the beginning.
Something big has to go wrong. All the stakes have to be pulled out. It just does. That's how Grimoire works. Shay's starting to understand it. He doesn't look forward to it, but he knows better than anyone in there, he has to keep going.
A voice inside his head tells him to move forward. So while Ronnie is still talking to Taylor, Shay stands up on his feet. He holds his hands out to his side. The tunnel is cramped enough that they can still walk if they keep their hands on the wall.
Shay tells them his idea. They're hesitant at first, but Shay insist they have to keep moving forwar

Grimoire {29} Darkness
Ronnie walks in front. He has the only working phone. Taylor cusses as she shoves her phone back into her pocket after another failed attempt to start it up.
"Stupid piece of shit."
"Aren't you the stupid one for not charging it?"
"My battery was at eighty percent right before we came in here. How does it just die like that?"
Unable to answer, Ronnie holds up his phone to the best angle, slowly walking through the thin layer of water. He uses his hands to direct the other two. It's usually if there's a bump or curve incoming. The water smells vile enough. No one wants to chance falling in. Or getting cut.
